Measurement of the effect of water droplets on strained laminar flames using two-phase PIV

The effect of water droplets on strained methane-air laminar flames is investigated using particle image velocimetry both gas and liquid phases. We use the impinging flame configuration to measure speed (gas) as well motion phase, simultaneously. Water mean diameter 36.6 µm are produced by an ultrasonic atomizer dispersed in a methane/air flow, for constant molar ratio (12–36%) fuel (methane). This corresponds mass fraction 0.8–2.2% at stoichiometry. slip between phase quantified seeding 1.7 oil into reactant segmentation method determine velocity gaseous flow separately. result reveals clear two phases: inertia relatively large results drift front higher than factor 10–30% most cases. Measurements gas-phase show that addition significantly reduces reference speed, especially high strain rates.
